Vichoke Mukdamanee was born in Songkhla province on the 8th of March 1953. He received both his BFA and MFA from Silpakorn University in 1974 and 1987 respectively. In 1986, he completed a diploma in Art Education from Tokyo Gakugei University after receiving a scholarship for further studies. He was also the Director of the Art Centre of Silpakorn University as well as a professor in the department of Painting, Sculpture and Printing.

Vichoke is considered to be one of Thailand’s leading artists, known for his abstract mixed media and sculpture work. As a result, he was awarded the National Artist title in 2012 under the Visual Arts category.

The artist has used his art to comment and visually depict social values, his art often revolves around the concept of human life, nature and the effects of technological developments within modern Thai society in reference to material and social behaviour.

Emeritus Professor Vichoke Mukdamanee sadly passed away on the 7th of June 2020.
