MoNWIC sat down with the great Ithipol Thangchalok to talk about our the special commissioned piece named Day – Night:

“For this painting, I was assigned by the architect who had designed two curved walls permanently install inside the house.  The 2 curves with a pathway in between have reminded me of the orbits of the earth around the sun which causes daytime and nighttime. Therefore, I decided to create one side as a daytime and nighttime on the other side.”

“In terms of drawing forms and techniques, this is the continuation of the former work integrated with the new concept of day and night as well as worldwide symbols.  I’ve always applied the drawing of stairs reflecting up-and-down steps like our life which keeps turning. The rests reflect the oldness and newness on either smooth or rough surfaces under both bright and dark tones.”

“I’ve always created my works under the concept of binary opposition starting with spontaneous brushstrokes, followed by geometric forms to organize the compositions which can be easily noticed. Therefore, we will see the opposites clearer in accordance with the principle of Yin-Yang in Taosim, the oriental though, for example.”
